Coach parties are welcome at Urban Jungle. The nursery is just a short and very pleasant walk from ‘Crete Lodge’. This garden, owned by Keith and Melissa Scott, is one of the most impressive, privately owned exotic gardens in the UK. Coach parties are able to visit Crete Lodge in combination with Urban Jungle. Please use the formpost below or telephone (01603) 744997 for details.
Crete Lodge
Crete Lodge, the home of Keith and Melissa Scott is on a 2 acre plot with approximately one acre laid out in a series of exotic gardens, each blending seamlessly into the next. Meandering paths and steps lead the visitor on to discover a huge range of mature, diverse and rare species. From a shady, humid, Tree Fern garden, to a colourful Tropical Garden with towering Banana Trees and wild colour, the path leads on to the top of a sun baked gravel bank planted with a mass of Agaves, Yuccas and Nolinas. There are lovely views over the Natural Swimming Pond, surrounded by Palms, Tree ferns and Gunnera, and the Yare Valley beyond. Finally, on to the new Succulent Bank, set out with the rare, the unusual and the ‘can’t be grown in England’ cacti and aloes.
Many of the plants in the garden are borderline hardy and ingenious methods are employed during the winter months to protect them from frost and rain – frontier gardening at its best!
Refreshments are served around the Swimming Pond.
The garden is at the top of a private woodland track, impassable to coaches. Visitors alight from their coach at the bottom of the hill, and the very pleasant walk takes approximately ten minutes at a gentle pace. Urban Jungle Nursery is approximately 300 Yards away.
