(Japanese Angelica tree)
AGM
Family Araliaceae
Originating from E. Asia
Highly desirable, choice deciduous shrub or small tree with branches held in horizontal tiers and enormous leaves up to 1m long, composed of small leaflets with broad, irregular, creamy white margins. Sometimes almost half the leaf may be white. One of the most beautiful and architectural of all trees.
Variegated forms of Aralia are grafted onto the common form and occasionally suckers are produced which must be removed. Because suitable propagating material is sparsely produced, these plants remain rare and expensive.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or part shade. A sheltered site is advisable as strong winds may damage the huge leaves.
Eventual mature plant size :
Height 5m
Spread 5m
