Originating from Afghanistan to N. India
A fast-growing, evergreen conifer, conical when young but developing a domed crown as it matures with smooth, grey bark and soft bundles of gracefully drooping, glaucous blue/green needles. Young trees can grow up to three feet a year. It produces ellipsoid-shaped cones (squashed sphere or banana-shaped) at the ends of the branches – these are upright when young but pendulous when mature. A lovely, graceful and colourful pine.
Grow in well-drained soil in sun. Will not tolerate very chalky soils.
