Family: Agapanthaceae (African lily) An evergreen perennial with arching, dark green, linear leaves, producing mottled stems bearing umbels of very, very, dark blue flowers followed by waxy capsules, becoming papery and splitting to reveal rows of black seeds. This is possibly the darkest blue agapanthus to date. I’ve seen it once, in a private garden, planted en masse alongside Euphorbia griffithii ‘Dixter’ to sensational effect – an inspired combination.
Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or in containers. Water well in summer.
Height 1m.
Hardy in milder locations.
