Family Bromeliaceae
Originating from Chile
An easy to grow bromeliad that forms clumping rosettes of silver/green, thin, lance-shaped spiny leaves. Late in summer the rosettes begin to flatten and open. The inner leaves become bright red and a cluster of kingfisher blue flowers is formed in the centre making a stunning and unusual display of colour. It is native to the snowy hillsides of Chile and has proved hardy in the UK.
Usually seen in gardens planted in full sun amongst yuccas and other succulents, it grows equally well in shade.
