A fleshy, clump-forming, evergreen succulent with rosettes of densely packed, dark green leaves. These have soft marginal teeth and white spots, especially on the re-curved undersides. In summer it produces branched panicles of red-hot-poker-like tubular orange/red flowers. Aloe aristata produces offsets freely and in time forms great clumps. It will take several degrees of frost and has survived many winters outdoors at the nursery but not winter 2010/11.
Grow in sharply drained gritty compost in full sun.
