(feijoa, Pineapple guava)
Originating from South America
An evergreen shrub with small, rounded leaves, grey/green above and covered in silver felt on the undersides. In summer it produces very beautiful flowers consisting of four cup-shaped pink petals around dark red stamens and yellow anthers. It responds well to pruning and although naturally a multi-stemmed shrub, pruning from a young age can result in a lovely little architectural tree with pale grey bark. Pruning should take place after fruiting.
Acca is not only cultivated for its ornamental value but also as a fruiting shrub.
Grow in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position. In very frost prone areas grow in a conservatory in JI no 3 in good light. Acca is drought and salt tolerant, making it an ideal shrub for coastal gardens.
