Originating from Canaries and North Africa
Aeoniums are tender plants and will not survive outdoors in the UK. They require minimal heat during the winter months, a few degrees above frost free but they must be kept very dry and in good light. At the nursery, we plant Aeonium 'Zwartkop' in the free-draining, gritty soil of our raised succulent bed in May, where it is often mistaken for an exotic flower, and dig up and store in late October. It may produce a real flower when in its forth or fifth year, the rosette rising from the centre into a large dome, opening into panicles of yellow flowers.
Grow in gritty, free-draining soil or compost. Allow to dry out completely between watering. Requires full sun as leaves will loose their lustrous black colour in anything less.
Eventual mature plant size :
Height 90cm
