Family Agapanthaceae
Originating from South Africa

A vigorous perennial with large clumps of dark green, leathery, strap-shaped leaves and a 60cm tall flowering stem bearing a rounded head of numerous, bluebell blue funnel-shaped flowers.
Agapanthus make excellent container plants, especially when a pair are placed flanking a door or steps, but work equally well when planted en masse in a border. Container grown plants should be over wintered in a frost-free greenhouse. In light of recent winters it is also advisable to mulch Agapanthus that are planted in the ground. In mild winters Agapanthus africanus will remain evergreen but harsh winters will cause dieback of leaves.
Grow in moist but well-drained soil in sun. Divide in spring if clumps become congested and re-pot containerised plants regularly. Although congested plants will flower at a younger age, their roots are capable of cracking a terracotta pot.

Eventual mature plant size :
Height 60cm

Spread 60cm
