Family Asparagaceae
Originating from Mexico

An architectural, evergreen, succulent perennial with rosettes of green leaves with a broad yellow stripe down the margins, up to 2m in length. Along these margins run extremely sharp recurved teeth, like fishhooks, and a very sharp, pointed tip. Often these leaves curve dramatically.
When mature, and if weather conditions are suitable, it sends up an enormous, branched, flowering stem from the centre of the rosette, with numerous tubular yellow flowers. Flowering is quite rare but not unheard of in the UK. This is a monocarpic plant and individual rosettes die after flowering but usually produce many suckers around the base, so continuing its lineage.
Grow in pure grit and full sun, give winter protection from rain and snow.
Flowering spike may reach 6m.

Eventual mature plant size :
Height 2m
Spread 3m
