A deciduous small tree with large, drooping, simple leaves up to 30cm long, turning a rich gold in autumn. In a warm summer it may produce exquisite edible fruits that have a soft flesh that tastes of banana/apple and custard. The tree is completely hardy and is grown for its fruit in Canada. Whether our summer in the UK are long and warm enough for it to be a productive tree remains to be seen.
Grow in humus rich, moist but well drained soil in sun or dappled shade.
