Family Buxaceae
Originating from Europe and N. Africa

A bushy rounded shrub or small tree with small, glossy dark green leaves and inconspicuous aromatic flowers, smelling of honey and popular with bees. It is a very dense plant and tolerant of close clipping, making it perfect for topiary, for which it is extremely popular. Box is also frequently used as hedging and can be kept at under 50cm for formal knot gardens. What's more, it's very low maintenance, requiring clipping just once a year.
Grow in any reasonable soil in sun/shade - part shade is ideal.
