Originating form N. temperate regions
Vigorous, woody, deciduous climber with bold, plum purple leaves and dark purple grapes in late summer. This is one of the most beautiful climbers for autumn colour - the leaves in spring are a soft purple with a white down, giving them a silvery appearance. As the season progresses they turn purple intensifying to a very bright red/purple in autumn with black grapes. The fruit is small, harsh and unpalatable but can be used to make a very good, deep red wine.
Vitis can be grown over a pergola, arbour or allowed to scramble up a tree.
Grow in well-drained soil in sun.
