Family Pinaceae
Originating from Southern USA
This is an extremely compact plant, forming an upright mass of deep silver-blue needles; the older ones contrast strongly with the newly emerging silver/green clusters of needles at the tips of the branches in spring. Its habit has the potential for pruning to form into an oriental-style ‘lifesize bonsai’, but left to grow into its natural form it will make a conical shape, widening and becoming more rounded with age. Rare in the UK, this 10- 12-year-old specimen is grafted by artisan Dutch growers. Tolerant of a wide range of soil types and easy to grow, preferring full sun or light shade.
Height and spread after 5 – 6 years 1m x 60cm Mature height and spread after 10 – 15 years if not pruned 1.6m x 1.5m
