Description

Family Pinaceae
Originating from Southern Spain

Upright and acutely angled branches bear stout needles, in a spiral distribution right around the branches, giving them a cylindrical appearance. The needles are bright silver/green as they emerge, maturing to a rich olive-green. Red male flowers appear in spring on the lower branches. The female waxy grey green cones, up to 15cm long, form on the higher branches, and stand upright. Rarely seen in the UK, this plant is from artisan Dutch plantsmen, and is probably 10 – 12 years old already. Easy to grow, tolerating drought once mature, performing best in full sun in most soil types.

Height and spread after 5 – 6 years 2m x 80cm
Mature height and spread after 10 – 15 years if not pruned 4m x 1m
