Family Malvaceae
Originating from Brazil, Uruguay
An exotic looking evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub for a warm, sunny wall, sheltered planting amongst other shrubs, or a conservatory. Rapidly growing, it has lobed, ovate lush looking dark green leaves on slender, arching shoots. If the plant is situated close to a path or sitting area where the exquisite flowers are in close proximity, one can fully appreciate the small Chinese lantern-shaped blooms with red calyxes from which protrude the yellow flowers. The perfectly formed blooms appear in late spring and continue until the first frost, making a stunning display for the whole season. This is an easy species to grow if sheltered from the harshest winter conditions and the lax branches given a little support.
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Needs protection of a wall.
Approximate height and spread after 5 years 2x2m
