Description

Family Fabaceae
Originating from Australia

Possibly the most floriferous tree we’ve ever seen! The normally arching and wiry branches appear weighed down by the masses of sweetly scented blooms, buzzing with bees. This curious but very beautiful and graceful wattle is fast-growing and forms a large shrub or small tree, with slender, branches bearing small, silver/green triangular leaves. The graceful weeping character of the crown is at odds with the appearance of the foliage, on closer inspection they form a saw tooth-like pattern along the branches, and although not sharp, they look jagged and most unique. They are known as phyllodes and are actually modified leaf stalks that serve the function of a leaf.

The ‘Saw Tooth Acacia’ will thrive against a sheltered warm wall, but will also grow well in coastal conditions in a mild maritime environment.
An easy plant to grow, this species can be shaped to form a shrub, small tree, or even a loose hedge. Pruning should be carried out in spring, immediately after flowering in order to ensure the production of the following season’s flowers.
