Family Sapindaceae
(Sango kaku translated ‘Coral Tower’)
One of the outstanding Japanese maples; strong in growth, colourful all year with stunning pink/red branches, upright, graceful habit, and delicate light green leaves. The colour of the young wood becomes more intense through autumn and into winter before the leaves emerge a bright yellow-green with pink/red edges in spring. As the season progresses they mellow to light green before turning orange-yellow in the autumn. Sango-kaku develops a wide-spreading canopy to form a striking specimen plant, robust enough for sunnier positions and ideal for pot planting.
Height and spread after 10 – 15 years if not pruned 8m x 6m.
