Abundant and intensely colourful, this bushy upright variety has many unique qualities amongst Japanese Maples. Its multitudes of small, densely borne leaves have pronounced slender tips, giving the plant a soft, spiky texture. The nicely spread, star-shaped lobes sit stiffly on a short stem, enhancing the plant’s charming, bristly appearance. In spring, the leaves have an intense coral-red colour, darkening and maintaining their rich purple throughout the summer. Slender and shrubby for years, older plants can exceed 3m and develop a wider crown. Easy to grow in full sun or partial shade in non-alkaline soil.
