Originating from Japan, C China, Korea
A deciduous small tree of bushy habit, with deep purple leaves becoming red in autumn. Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated. Inconspicuous red-purple flowers in spring may be followed by winged, purple fruits.
Grow in moist but well-drained soil. Water in summer if necessary. Leaf scorch can be caused by lack of soil moisture or excessive exposure.
