Family Asparagaceae
Originating from SE Arizona to Mexico

Fairly compact and cold tolerant, forming tight rosettes of broad, thick, silvery-gray leaves with a dark terminal spine. They flower only once and the spike can reach 15m, it bears dense clusters of yellow flowers, tinged red or pink in bud. It dies after flowering but new plants are formed by offsets.
Grow in sharply-drained soil in sun. Protect from winter wet.
