Description

Family Asparagaceae
Originating from Mexico

Amazing, elegant or crazily quirky, slender and curvaceous or spiky and chunky looking? It’s possible to see all of these qualities in this amazing and unique species. Its common name ‘Octopus Agave’ is most fitting as the leaves have the appearance of a many legged sea creature wafting in the current. In full sun they have a silver grey appearance whilst if grown in a conservatory with lower light they can be green. After many years a stunning 3 – 4 m tall flower spike is produced bearing multitudes of golden blooms, which turn to plantlets after the flowers. The dying spike, and the rosette of foliage, are replaced by hundreds of baby plants. A stunning patio plant for summer it must be returned to a frost free conservatory or greenhouse for winter.

Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 2m x 2m.
