Family Salicaceae
Originating from Chile and Argentina
An evergreen, upright shrub or small tree with pendant shoots bearing an abundance of glossy dark green leaves broadly edged with cream. In late winter/early spring it bears small, vanilla-scented green flowers with yellow stamens on the undersides of the shoots. It will fill the surrounding air with fragrance so be sure to plant where you can enjoy it.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or shade. It will tolerate full shade and is an excellent wall shrub. Although it has proven to be very hardy, new shoots may be damaged in severe frost.
