Description

Family Asteraceae
Originating from Mexico

Evergreen shrub with dark purple stems and huge, velvety, dark green, heart-shaped leaves with heavy, veining. In early spring it produces large clusters of mauve pompom-like flowers with a slight scent. These are beautifully displayed on stalks held well above the foliage. As a foliage plant alone, this would be a superb, tropical-looking addition to a cool, shady conservatory, but is a showstopper when in flower.
Grow in moist but well-drained, humus rich compost in light shade. Keep very well watered in summer. Pinch out growing tips for a bushy, rounded plant.

Height and spread after 1 – 2 years 1m x 1m
Mature height and spread after 3 – 4 years 2m x 2m
