Family Berberidaceae
Garden Origin.
A smouldering mound of spectacularly hot colour, diminutive and delightfully marked, its impact is seen from a distance but the foliage demands closer inspection too. Each tiny deciduous orange leaf has a sharply defined margin of bright lime green, giving them an almost Pop Art look. Older leaves, lower down on the plant take on green hues, further adding to the plant’s drama as its branches appear to effervesce, becoming more fiery in colour near their tips. Yellow bell-shaped flowers, loved by pollinators, appear in spring. Undemanding in any soil in full sun.
Height and spread after 5 – 10 years 1m x 50cm.
