Family Saxifragaceae
Originating from Central Asia.
Outstanding in difficult areas of the garden. Spikes of bright pink flowers are produced in autumn as well as spring, and sometimes sporadically throughout the year, borne above slowly spreading clumps of fleshy evergreen leaves. The foliage makes a handsome, compact ground covering carpet and turns shades of red and purple in low temperatures. Easy to grow in any soil type, and in dry shade, under trees. Bergenias are invaluable for woodland, traditional English and jungle style gardens.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 30cm x 50cm, (flower spikes add another 20 cm in height).
