Family Betulaceae.
Originating from China.
This cultivar was propagated from a tree originally grown from seed collected in Kaolan, Gansu, China. It has shining, rich red/brown bark with few white markings or lenticels, which appears to peel in wide sections, unlike some other forms that have a ‘shaggy’ look with many short peeling strips. The dense crown of mid-green, oval tapering leaves turns bright yellow in autumn. The tree has a slender shape when young, which broadens with age to form a wide crown.
