Originating from China
An elegant and sparsely branched tree with an open and airy crown of dark green deciduous leaves, showing off its richly coloured trunk and branches. The peeling outer layers of deep reddish/brown coloured papery bark reveal strips of white and tan under layers covered in a white powdery bloom. The leaves densely cover the upright branches on young trees turning deep yellow in autumn. Conical when young, broadening to form a wide crown in maturity. Large pendulous dark golden yellow catkins appear alongside the leaves.
Easy to grow in any soil type in sun or part shade.
Height and spread after 20 – 30 years 12m x 8m.
