Originating from SE USA
A fast growing, showy tree from the southern states of America with a broad, spreading crown and large, dark green, heart-shaped leaves. Produces very attractive white flowers in summer, followed by long, bean-like fruits. A particularly good tree for pollarding – trunk can be cut back severely in March. This keeps the plant shrubby and causes the growth of those coveted, massive, tropical-looking leaves.
Grow in moist but well-drained soil in sun. Will tolerate most soil types but leaves may become yellow in very thin, alkaline soils.
Height and spread if pollarded 2.5m.
