Originating from SE USA
Abundant, lush large leaves and upright bunches of orchid-like scented flowers are borne on a stately broad spreading crown of branches. Its broad deciduous mid-green foliage alone sets it apart, but the many panicles of large fleshy tubular flowers, with yellow and purple markings, make for a truly outstanding display. Its generous and wide habit usually means there are flowers low enough in the crown to enjoy the sweet scent and intricate marking of blooms, followed by long hanging bean-like seed pods.
Easy to grow in most soil types in full sun.
Height and spread after 20 – 50 years 12m x 10m.
