Family Plumbaginaceae
Originating from China, Tibet
So many colours – where to begin? intensely cool, fiery and blazing, dusky and smouldering. The spreading, dense, ground covering mass of perennial foliage is a bright, cheerful apple green in summer, marked occasionally with burgundy, before turning bright orangey red in autumn. The shining sky blue flowers are borne all summer long and emerge from dark burgundy hairy buds, borne on stems of the same colour. Forming a spectacular carpet of ever changing display in gardens of any style, it tolerates root competition and dry conditions when established and is easy to grow in any soil in full sun.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 50cm x 50cm.
