Family Fabaceae
Originating from China
An elegant and intense flowering display heralding spring, is followed by a lush and abundant flush of pink/purple tinged foliage, maturing to a rich cheerful green. In early spring the bare branches are encrusted with tight clusters of deep cerise buds that slowly open to form lighter pink star shaped flowers, lasting for many weeks until the foliage appears. The large heart shaped leaves are extraordinarily glossy and deeply coloured as they emerge, growing densely in a strikingly symmetrical arrangement on the slightly zig zag pattern of vigorously growing branches. Easy to grow in any soil in full sun or part shade.
Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 3.5m x 3.5m.
