Family Solanaceae
Originating from Mexico
Vigorous evergreen shrub with downy, dark green leaves, slightly red tinged, on arching branches. Produces dense clusters of crimson flowers at the tips of the branches throughout the year, even in the depths of winter in a cool greenhouse or conservatory. These are followed by red berries.
Our parent plant flowers 365 days a year although flowers are produced more profusely in summer/autumn.
Grow in fertile compost in good light, providing ample water during the growing season and a monthly balance feed. An excellent patio plant during the summer months it has survived outdoors in milder winters, although in light of recent winters, we recommend treating as a tender shrub.
Can be pruned to restrict its size or form different shapes, e.g. a multi-stemmed shrub or single stem with crown.
Height and spread in 4 – 5 years 3 x 2m
Mature height and spread, if not pruned, after approximately 10 years 4 x 2.5m.
