Description

Family Rutaceae
Originating from Barbados

The most handsome of all the citrus, with large, slightly puckered glossy evergreen leaves, heavenly scented flowers typical of the family, and huge red-flushed golden fruit. The grapefruit is tantalisingly almost hardy enough for the mildest southern and coastal areas of the UK; there are large fruiting trees planted in the ground in central London, where they can withstand light frost. We recommend growing them in large pots and moving them into a greenhouse or conservatory for winter. Given the hottest most protected position you have outside for the summer the ‘Pomelo’ will reward you with delicious fruit.

Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 3m x 3m.
