Velvety, dark and brooding, fantastically scented and totally unique, this confection of a plant adds a luxuriant and beautifully rich shade of smouldering red/burgundy to the lower levels of planting schemes. Hardy in southern and coastal areas, its rhizomes can be protected with a mulch of straw in cold winters. Ideal for Mediterranean gardens, it is adaptable to all styles and growing in pots, where its delicious chocolatey scent can be enjoyed. Its feathery herbaceous foliage makes a compact blue/green mound below the small nodding dahlia-like blooms. Easy to grow in free draining soil in full sun.
