Family Elaeocarpaceae
Originating from Chile
Exquisitely formed bell-shaped blooms hang elegantly amongst dark and lustrous abundant evergreen foliage throughout spring and summer. The long, slender pointed leaves form a dense evergreen, bushy shrub, forming the perfect backdrop to its flowers’ ethereal shade of pink/flushed white. Hanging like lantern-shaped, sugary confections on long stems, they are fascinatingly detailed, with pleats and frilly tips to the petals. Hardy in southern and coastal regions, it is undemanding in acid to neutral soil in woodland microclimates, once established, where the flowers can subtly glow in dappled shade.
Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 4m x 2.5m
