Robust and rangy, dark and dusky, with a contrasting floral display of pure white, fragrant flowers. This wonderful evergreen small tree has reddish/tan shoots that bear toothed oval, dark green, slightly glossy leaves. From midsummer to autumn it bears charming bell shaped flowers, pendulous and frilly at the tips of their petals, with a sweet scent. They have a translucent quality, hanging amongst the dark foliage and branches in light dappled shade, where the species thrives amongst other evergreens. Hardy in southern and coastal regions, it is best grown in humus rich non alkaline soil in shelter from strong wind.
