Originating from South Africa
A robust, cormous perennial producing dense clumps of foliage with long, bright green, pleated, strap-shaped leaves. In mid-summer it produces branching spikes of iris-like, upward facing dazzling red flowers. An invaluable addition to a hot colour scheme, few other plants have such an intense red colour. Lucifer looks at its best planted in front of dark leaves cannas such as ‘Wyoming’. Both foliage and flowers are used in floral arrangements.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or part shade.
