Family Cupressaceae
Originating from North America
A stunning and architectural addition to any garden, similar to the Mediterranean pencil cypress, although perhaps slightly more rounded. Its foliage is a bright silver colour, seemingly shimmering in strong sun – it is so bright. It makes a stunning companion plant to yuccas, agaves and other spiky desert-style compositions, and it thrives in similar conditions. The Arizona Cypress is rarely seen in the UK and although experimentation with tying in its branches and clipping is required, we think it can be trained to make a columnar specimen. If left to grow naturally it will develop a wide crown in maturity although when young it may make a looser and more open screen or light hedge.
Tolerant to a wide range of soil conditions except for poorly drained ones.
Height and spread after 5 – 6 years 2.5m x 60cm
Semi mature height and spread after 10 – 15 years if not pruned or clipped 4m x 1.5m
Mature height and spread after 40 – 50 years 15m x 8cm
