Description

Family Asteraceae
Originating from Mexico to Colombia.

  • Vigorously growing stems can reach 4m in one season bearing large, complex feather-shaped leaves.
  • Large pink flowers require a hot and late summer to appear in the UK.
  • Spectacular as a foliage plant, easy to grow in sheltered gardens in any fertile soil in full sun.

An epic plant befitting its imperial name, with huge delicate looking feather-shaped foliage borne on stout upright stems that can grow from ground level up to 4m tall in one season. Its broad, oval leaflets are arranged in a complex and detailed structure, making it worthy of planting for its foliage alone.

In hot summers, when the frosts are late in the UK winter we may be treated to an outstanding floral display of large cup shaped pink flowers, although these usually form too late in the season.

Easy to grow in any soil with copious watering in full sun.

Height and spread after 1 – 2 years 4m x 1.5m
