Family Hemerocallidaceae
Originating from Australia, Tasmania
An evergreen perennial, resembling a small phormium, forming clumps of stiff, green, glossy, strap-shaped leaves with red bases. In winter the leaf takes on a much redder hue. Star-shaped, lavender blue flowers are produced on long red stalks in summer followed by deep purple/blue, metallic berries. Also excellent in containers.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun/part shade. Mulch around base of plant in winter.
