Family Dicksoniaceae
Originating from S.E. Australia and Tasmania
It grows in temperate woodlands which often experience cold conditions. The most famous tree fern and reliably hardy in the British Isles. It is extremely slow growing (slower than most tree ferns) and in a good year will grow about an inch in height and considerably less in girth. However, even small specimens put out magnificent fronds each year. Incidentally, the fastest-growing specimens are found in the southwest of Ireland.
Mature height and spread after many years 4m x 4m
