Dracunculus vulgaris, 3L plants
Family Araceae
Originating from Mediterranean

One of the largest, strangest, most exotic looking flowers that is completely hardy in the UK. If Aroids are the Adams Family of the plant kingdom then this individual is Morticia – beautiful and enchanting but with a dark, macabre side. Deeply lobed leaves unfurl from a reptilian like stem. The stunning, huge, deepest purple spathe unravels to reveal a huge black spadix.

Much beloved by us at Urban Jungle and the flies (it smells of rotting flesh!) but only for a day or two when the spadix reaches maturity.

Our Dracunculus vulgaris 3L plants have well established roots and will quickly establish, producing its spectacular flower in full sun or dappled woodland shade in light soil that is not boggy.

Eventual mature plant size :
Height 1.5m
Spread 1m
