A bushy, vigorous biennial or short-lived perennial sub-shrub with rosettes of hairy, grey-green leaves and spikes of blue flowers in spring. Magnificent as a foliage plant, it’s explosive when in flower, Pride of Madeira is extremely effective planted amongst spiky palms, yuccas and agaves but equally suited to a more traditional, sunny border.
Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Protect with fleece in winter.
