Family Boraginaceae
Originating from Europe and N. America
Rugged yet sophisticated, understated and refined. Upright spikes elegantly bear multitudes of tubular blooms in a luxuriously deep shade of smouldering burgundy, flushed with deep cerise pink. They crowd the inflorescences (flower spikes), flaring widely with gracefully upswept protruding stamens, making cylindrical columns of pollinator heaven. The lower portions of this herbaceous, slowly spreading perennial bear handsome lance shaped leaves, covered in bristly hairs, making a slowly spreading clump while the flower spikes form a stunning vertical accent. Easy to grow in all but heavy wet soil in full sun.
Height and spread after 1 – 2 years 1m x 50cm.
