Family Thymelaeaceae.
Originating from China.
A unique small deciduous shrub in all its characteristics, forming a low mound-shape clothed in summer with long elliptical leaves which cover the branches densely before falling in autumn to reveal the thick succulent looking, baobab like branches, with a smooth tan coloured bark. Downy buds form at the tips of the bare branches in winter, opening to reveal yellow/white blooms in late winter/early spring, filling the air with a delicious scent for many weeks. Grow in light loamy soil in sun or shade, preferably in a woodland microclimate.
Height and spread after 8 – 10 years 1.5m x 1.5m.
