Description

Family Berberidaceae
Originating from Mediterranean and E. Asia

A vigorous, ground covering, evergreen perennial with heart-shaped mid-green leaves, copper/red when young, green in summer and burnished copper again in autumn. Produces sprays of lemon yellow flowers on wiry stems, held above the foliage in spring. Excellent plant for year round interest in a woodland border, combining well with hostas, ferns and arisaemas.
Cut back dead and damaged leaves in early spring before new season’s growth and flowers emerge.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in shade/part shade. Will tolerate dry soil once established.

Height and spread after 2 – 3 years 20cm x 30cm
Mature height and spread after 4 – 5 years 30cm x 50cm
