Family Apiaceae
Originating from Argentina

  • Beautiful rich green semi-evergreen leaves make an upright architectural statement.
  • Broad heads of many silvery flowers last for many months in summer and are loved by all pollinators.
  • Easy to grow in full sun in poor well-drained soil.

Ferocious-looking broad tongues of glossy green leaves with attitude. Tall, long-lasting spikes of elegant thistle-like flowers, loved by pollinators, make this diminutive but powerfully architectural plant indispensable for Mediterranean and coastal gardens. Forming slowly spreading clumps of semi evergreen perennial foliage, its long sharp spines are not stout enough to make this dangerously spiky. Tall stems bear many silver/green cone-shaped flowers for a long period in summer, doubling the height of the plant. Easy to grow in any well-drained soil in full sun.

Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 1.5m x 1m.
