Family Celastraceae
Garden origin.
A carpeting, evergreen ground covering plant with the handsomely marked leaf of all, up to 7cm long dark green in colour with silver eye-catching detail on the ground or if trained will cover anything. Thrives in part shade or sun and in most soil types and conditions. There are many plants that will make a carpeting ground cover, but this has the most distinctively and handsomely marked leaf of all. The slender and glossy evergreen leaves can be up to 7cm long and are a very dark emerald green colour, contrasting well with the silver variegation that runs widely along the central vein and more slenderly along the lateral veins. Such rich detail and colouration seen en-masse carpeting around and under taller planting, or trained up a fence or tree trunk is an arresting sight. This plant can bring eye-catching detail to the lowest levels of planting compositions and if trained will cover any item such as a post, sculpture, tree stump or wall. This is a hardy and very easy plant to grow, thriving in shade or sun and in most soil types and conditions.
