Description

Family Euphorbiaceae
Originating from Madeira

  • Lush and abundant handsomely marked evergreen foliage forms a rounded medium-sized shrub.
  • A profuse, honey-scented display of burgundy red and pink flowers is followed by golden exploding seeds.
  • Easy to grow in full sun in a sheltered spot, best in light soil.

Lush and slender, cheerfully rich vibrant evergreen leaves crowd the upper parts of this rounded shrub’s upright stems. Each leaf has a striking cream-coloured mid-rib and emerges yellow/green before darkening to deep dusky dark green, making a stunning evergreen backdrop to the large richly honey-scented clusters of flowers, loved by all pollinators. They emerge red/burgundy and fade to orange-yellow, lasting for many weeks, followed by exploding seed heads that pop open to disperse their seeds.

Easy to grow in all but heavy wet soils in full sun. Hardy in southern and coastal areas.

Height and spread after 3 – 5 years 1.8m x 1.8m
