Description

Family Euphorbiaceae
Originating from the Azores.

A small-tree-like Euphorbia with imposing and strikingly upright candelabra-shaped stems bearing deep lusciously green leaves with a handsome central cream mid-rib. The evergreen foliage is densest near the tips of the branches, making a rounded dome-shaped crown, adorned in late spring and early summer with deep rusty orange-coloured flowers, dripping with nectar to the enchantment of any nearby pollinator. They are followed by exploding seed pods which pop loudly when dispersing their seeds. Easy to grow in any free-draining soil and in pots but hardy only in sheltered spots of southern and coastal gardens.

Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 2m x 1.5m
